Assault Awareness and Prevention for Transit Operators (Train the Trainer)

TAM will be hosting two separate sessions of this course on July 25 and July 26 from 9:30 AM – 2 PM each day.

The goal of this course is to give bus operators in the transit industry the knowledge and skills needed to reduce the likelihood of assault incidents from occurring. Prevention methods covered include defining assault, discussing the types of incidents that could be considered assault and recognizing key vulnerability factors. Prevention strategies focus on communication and response skills, and the value of reporting incidents. In addition, the training includes information on the importance of seeking assistance to recover from assault incidents.

Train-the-Trainer: This training is for organizations that plan on implementing the training for their employees using their own instructional staff. Participants will preview the course and discuss how they can use NTI’s materials to implement it at their organization. Each participant receives an Instructor Package that includes an Instructor Guide, Course Slides and Instructor Notes and a Participant Workbook in hard copy and electronic format.

Audience: Transit operators and supervisors

Length: 4.5 hours

Fee: $10.00

Lunch: Lunch will be provided by TAM onsite. Please inform TAM during registration if you have any food allergies or restrictions and we will make reasonable attempts to accommodate.

Registration is limited to 4 persons per organization for both sessions combined (that is, an organization may send a maximum of four attendees total to the two sessions offered). Registration is limited to 20 persons per session date, and attendees must register on or before July 13.

Cancellation: All registrants for these sessions must have permission from their supervisor and agency to attend.

To receive a refund TAM must receive notice of cancellation by Friday, July 13.

Mission Statement: The Training Committee, serving as the voice for its members, will provide education and training opportunities, as well as tools to enhance safe, accountable, flexible, and efficient transportation services within the state of Maryland. TAM training goals are to:

1. Develop and implement training initiatives that will foster teamwork, providing forums for TAM members to network and gain information to help them improve internal and external customer services.
2. Partner with the MTA by identifying RTAP training and initiatives.
3. Make sure initiatives are delivered in a timely manner.
4. Be proactive and not reactive in identifying and delivering training initiatives to enable TAM members to operate efficiently.
